Students can expect to learn the foundations of sewing, including a variety of stitches, how to operate a sewing machine, cutting patterns, and various garment construction methods. They will also be encouraged to use their own creativity to design and sew their own garments.

Currently, beginner classes are available, while intermediate and advanced classes will be offered in the future. Please note that no classes will be held during the November and December holidays.

For the intermediate and advanced classes, students must have completed the previous level. Currently, beginner classes are open to everyone who is interested in sewing and design.

Each class is limited to a maximum of eight students, with an average class size of six to seven students. Small class sizes ensure that you receive personalized attention and plenty of opportunities to practice your skills.

Class dates vary by season, so please check the current flyer for the most up-to-date scheduling information. Classes are held at the Mu’umu’u Library in Ward Center. Entrance to Ward Center located on Auahi Street, across from Merriman’s Restaurant. No walk-ins. You must be registered before the class begins in order to attend.

Puamana’s teaching approach is based on the cultural practices of observing, listening, and doing. It is important for students to be present in person to benefit from both verbal and hands-on instructions. Throughout the class, you will be guided through each process by watching demonstrations and participating in practical exercises.

The program begins with an orientation, followed by an "Introduction to Machine and Stitching" segment that includes two projects spread over eight sessions. The course concludes with a Ho’ike graduation ceremony.
